February 2, 2013 1pm - 5pm
On February 2nd 1pm – 5pm the Common Threads art show will be coming to Hopewell Valley Vineyard (www.hopewellvalleyvineyards.com). Common Threads will feature four distinctly different artists from Trenton NJ, as well as some works from two upcoming artists with ties to New Jersey’s capitol city.
Craig Shofed, Kate Graves, Vanity Sabelnik, Jeff Stewart, Burgess Ekman and George Chevalier will present their art. Each one has a very different style and uses a different medium, whether photography, sculpture, mixed media, or film. All six artists have shown their work at various venues in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and further afield, and have been staunch supporters of Trenton’s highly successful annual Art of Night 24-hour art festival. While these artists differ in the themes that they present, the city provides a common thread through the inspiration provided by the expanding artistic culture. Come out and see the diversity in this sampling of city artists.
C. A. Shofed - Increasingly C. A. Shofed's work seeks to bring attention to objects in an urban landscape. His art has been described has “industrial meets nature”. C. A. Shofed will be curating the Common Threads show as well as displaying his art.
Kate Graves - Kate’s work utilizes diverse materials including bronze, steel, wax, concrete, and stone. She is concerned with documenting local built and natural environments, which reflect cycles of creation and destruction.
It is her hope that these sculptures will act as a subtle catalyst within the perception of the viewer: that through the contemplation of absence and what has fallen away, that a deeper appreciation will be experienced for that which endures.
Vanity Sabelnik - Vanity is a mixed medium fine artist specializing in "Captivating Glitz and Sultry Glamour art! Mostly known for her use of glitter, crytals, fabrics and dimentions in her pieces. Vanity was nominated one of the top five visual artists in Philadelphias RAW Natural Born Artists in their annual art competition RAWards 2012 and won second place.
Jeff Stewart - Jeff was given his first camera when he was two years old, and he has not been seen without one since. His love of photography, and what some may say is a gift of storytelling, propelled him to attend New York University & Temple University to pursue a degree in filmmaking and creative writing. Jeff will be showing his film Velvet Elvis at the Common Threads show. A trailer can be seen at the link below. http://studios.amazon.com/projects/3832
Burgess Ekman - Burgess’ father was an artist; growing up in a house in which art was central was an experience she took for granted. The process of depicting what was, sometimes grueling, sometimes graceful, was compelling and fascinating to watch. As an adult, she has found creative expression in teaching and creating her own images. She works in mixed media and is focusing on photographs for this show.
George Chevalier - After a childhood spent in awe of the still images George Chevalier saw in magazines such as National Geographic, he began pursuing photography during his undergraduate studies. Today, George enjoys his work, writing and producing product photography. In his spare time he captures, with his unique perspective, everyday surroundings or adventures that take place in both the wilderness and the urban jungle.
